At Newrez, we believe that positive change begins at the local level. That’s why we support several grassroots, education-focused nonprofits across the country that aid teachers and empower students. For the 5th year in a row, we’ve helped them start the school year right!
Our campaign includes three major components: volunteering, donation drives and fundraising. In total, over $26,600 was raised in support of our nonprofit partners, as well as countless hours volunteered by our dedicated teams.

Volunteering
Our Community Engagement Councils lead the charge in our offices by organizing volunteer opportunities for employees in and out of the office.
- In Houston, TX, the Council rallied volunteers to pack more than 70 backpacks with school supplies and write encouraging tags to donate to local partner BEAR…BE A Resource. This nonprofit provides hope and help for at-risk and CPS-involved children and their caretakers. BEAR is a longtime charitable partner of Newrez and we are pleased to see the partnership continue.
- In Columbia, MD, the Council spent the day at the Exchangeree, a free-for-teachers supply shop, organizing supplies and helping teachers shop for classroom needs. The Exchangeree supports public school teachers in the Baltimore area.
- The Greenville Council catered a Back-to-School bash for the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters® of the Upstate to generate excitement around learning and going back to school. In addition, the Council held an in-office “lunch and learn” to recruit mentors. The nonprofit left the office with three interested mentors!
- Treasures 4 Teachers® receives support from the Tempe, AZ Council year-round, and this summer was no exception. The Tempe Council organized an in-office volunteer effort where 53 Newrezers assembled 2,550 journals, made 100 thank-you cards for teachers, and tested markers to make sure they were still working to get them classroom-ready.
- The Coppell, TX Council led the charge and raised over $8,500 through their beloved Snacks for Backpacks venture in partnership with Operation Homefront®. Newrezers in Coppell enjoyed nachos, corn dogs, and ice cream throughout July to raise money for the campaign. In addition, Coppell Council volunteers visited nearby Military bases to provide supplemental school supply packs for Military kids this school year.
- The Greenwood Village, CO office participated in their first-ever back-to-school drive. The small but mighty team packed 75 backpacks with school supplies to ensure Denver students and families started out the school year prepared, confident and excited.
- Cradles to Crayons® has become a favorite Fort Washington, PA office nonprofit partner. The Fort Washington Council sent 10 Newrezers to volunteer at the “Backpack-A-Thon®” at Lincoln Financial Field®, where the team packed backpacks with supplies for students across Philadelphia.
Book Access
Another way of supporting education is through increasing access to books, especially in underserved communities, to increase literacy. Newrez supported independent book sellers via Bookshop.org®. All books purchased from this list were shipped to The Book Fairies®, a three-time Newrez NOW Grant recipient and two-time annual book drive partner, to be distributed to children in underserved communities. Our community of customers and employees purchased over 60 books to benefit the mission of The Book Fairies®.
Fundraising
All donations made through our Giving Portal campaign page received a double company match from Newrez. These donations are shared among our partner nonprofits. Thanks to over 500 Newrezers’ commitment to making a difference, we raised more than $26,600 for our nonprofit partners!
