Creative Ways to Build Industry & Client Connections

Read Time: 4 Minutes Date Published: October 23, 2025

David Kakish, a Home Loan Expert with Anchor Home Loans and a Newrez Wholesale Broker Partner, believes borrowers deserve more than just a loan—they deserve to feel seen, heard, and supported. That philosophy drives his customer-first approach, which he shared on the latest Newrez Voices.

“When we think from the consumer perspective first and then engineer a process that puts their feelings, their emotions, their desires at the forefront... it creates an entirely different experience than they’ve ever had in this realm,” David said.

At Newrez, we pride ourselves on caring about our clients—and this is also true of our Wholesale Broker Partners. Catch some highlights below on how brokers can incorporate a personal touch with technological efficiency.

Building an Unbreakable Business

A mortgage company’s operations shouldn’t just be efficient—they should be resilient. David uses a unique lens to refine his process: Inversion Theory, championed by businessman Charlie Munger. Instead of asking how to succeed, David asks, “What would it take to break this?” That question helps him identify weak points and proactively build safeguards.

“I literally broke down the transaction from lead reception to post-close—every single step of what I could do to completely botch this whole thing,” David said. “If I know what would break my business, I can build it with that in the rearview mirror. I’m knitting the most beautiful sweater inside out.”

This mindset fuels continuous improvement. If a mortgage professional hears the same question more than once, David said, the process should be adjusted and shortcuts created.

Using Technology to Complement a Relationship-First Model

Newrez and many of our partners embrace technology not as a substitute for relationships, but as a way to deepen them. David suggested mortgage pros can make use of strategic tools like:

  • Rate alert systems for refinance opportunities
  • AI-driven psychological profiling for personalized messaging
  • Automated communication templates for speed and clarity

These innovations allow teams to stay responsive and relevant, while keeping the borrower experience front and center.

Why Partnering with Newrez is Different

David’s partnership with Newrez stands out because it’s built on mutual respect and collaboration—not just transactions.

“Newrez is different,” David said. “It started with a relationship and it’s bespoke to me and my needs. It’s a respectful and honest conversation—two ways.”

Unlike some lenders, David said, Newrez listens. David knows he can count on Newrez to work with him to meet customer needs.

“Some lenders want to tell me why I need to be sending them loans,” David said. “The ones I enjoy working with say, ‘How can we work together to add value?’ That’s why I trust Newrez.”

A Personalized Approach to Loans

No one wants to feel like a number in a long list. When a borrower approaches David, he wants them to feel like their loan is the only loan they’re working on. This is built into David’s processes but also with his communication and marketing.

“I want every client to feel like they’re our only client.” David said. “Even if we closed 15 loans that month, they should still feel like they were the only one.”

David knows that buying a home is a huge, emotional process for borrowers. Whether it’s your first home or your next, everyone wants to believe that the people helping them secure their home truly care about them.

He avoids phrases like “Sorry, we’re just really busy” because he knows how impersonal that sounds. Instead, he builds moments of connection through personalized videos, birthday messages, and holiday greetings. These touchpoints aren’t just thoughtful—they’re strategic, sparking conversations when people are with family and thinking about home.

By creating those memorable moments, mortgage professionals can build trust and expand their networks.

Securing an Unforgettable Borrower Experience

In an industry often focused on volume, it’s people like David who are transforming the mortgage experience. A customer-first approach, paired up with the right technology and partnerships, could help borrowers get an experience that’s seamless, unforgettable and fully supportive. We at Newrez are glad to work with professionals like David and create an experience for our partners that fits with their unique business strategy.
